A maximum capacity crowd of 36 Scrabblers took part in
our club's 8th annual summer tournament on July 12, 2008.
For the first time, we had five divisions. Divisional
winners were Bob Linn, Grant Guenzel, Ted Mast,
Theresa James, and Cheryl Kagan. Kagan was a first-time
tournament player.
A notable phony bingo was played by Jared Milton: WIDESIDE. He scored 102 but still lost the game by 5 points. Carole Denton had the acceptable UNSTONED challenged. Tat Reistrup had JABBERS for 103, and John Stinson played BELLYING for 92. We had a full house of 36 at our annual summer tournament. Results are below (spreads subject to verification). Among various combinations, we had matchups between father and son, father and daughter, and husband and wife. We also had a mother and son in the tourney, in different divisions. Thanks to Lorraine Cirina, Vince Castellano, Marcia Bowen, and John Stinson for helping. - - Ted
